Summer is almost here. That means lemonade by the pool, grilling, and yes, July 4th celebrations. If you're throwing an Independence Day party, you need to know how to transform your backyard into the place everyone wants to watch fireworks. Here are tips on how to decorate your backyard for the 4th of July:

1. Flag bunting

Flag buntings are a great way to decorate your backyard patio or fence. Just drape them over the top of the railings. The classic red, white, and blue pop against the white trim of any home.

2. Decorative hanging lanterns

Decorative hanging lanterns are perfect when the sun goes down and the fireworks come out. The selection is almost endless. You can choose from string lights with stars, or red, white, and blue paper lanterns. Your guests and neighbors are sure to be dazzled after dark.

3. Pinwheels

Pinwheels are a classic decoration that is versatile. You can stick them in your bushes, in the ground along a walkway, or arrange them as a centerpiece for your outdoor table. You can even get your kids involved with an easy pinwheel project.

4. Table edging

Attach red, white, and blue streamers to the outside edge of your table. You can create a fun, wild look by letting the streamers hang down. You can also create a more modern, chic look by attaching the streamers lengthwise and pleating them.

5. Table lights

You can get very creative with the lighting for your tables. You can line glasses with 4th of July themed tissue paper and place flameless candles inside them. For an even bigger impression, place battery powered lanterns underneath your tables. Then place red, white, or blue taffeta fabric over the top of the table. This creates elegant, breathtaking nightlights using your backyard tables.

6. Glow in the dark stars

Glow in the dark stars can give your backyard party a touch of magic once the fireworks start. Simply sprinkle the stars among the grass, along walkways, and stick them to the fence. You can also attach them to the stars on your flags so that when it gets dark they appear to light up.

7. Canopy

Use red, white, and blue streamers to create a 4th of July themed canopy for your picnic table or dance floor. Hang white strings of lights over the table in a criss-cross pattern and wrap the strings with the streamers.
