Tips For Your Next Big Moving Day

Blog

If you are planning for a move, there can be a countless number of details to be managed and logistical decisions that must be made. For those going through a move, the entire process can seem overwhelming, and failing to properly handle these issues can lead to damaged possessions or unexpected problems when you arrive at your new home. Adhering to the following two tips can help you dodge the worst of these issues.

Deep Clean Before Unpacking Your Possessions

When you arrive at your new home, you may want to immediately start unpacking your possessions, but this can cause you to squander the perfect opportunity to deep clean your new home. While cleaning may not be your idea of fun, a deep clean when you first arrive can remove allergens, bacteria and other contaminants that may have accumulated in the unoccupied home.

During this cleaning process, you should pay special attention to the bathroom and kitchen. These are water-intensive rooms, and the high humidity that is often found in these areas can spur the growth of numerous bacteria and molds. By thoroughly cleaning them before you start unpacking your possessions, you can easily eliminate these contaminants.

Use Separate Containers For Any Screws That You Need To Remove

While you are preparing your possessions for the move, there is a chance that you may need to dismantle some of the items to make them fit in your truck. This is particularly common for pieces of furniture and major appliances. Unfortunately, it is extremely common for people to accidentally lose the screws that go to these items.

To avoid this annoyance, you should make it a point to keep the screws from each item in a separate container. Ideally, you should use small sandwich bags for this task, but anything that will keep the screws separated can be an effective option. Also, make sure that you label these containers to ensure that you avoid the need to guess which of your items needs them.

Moving into a new home is always an exciting but stressful experience to go through, and it should not be surprising to learn that this process can quickly become overwhelming if you have a lot of items to move. Luckily, you do not have to let the intense amount of work that  goes into this task overwhelm you. By deep cleaning before you unpack your possessions and properly storing any removed screws during the move, you can drastically reduce the chances that you encounter some routine problems.
